A dear friend gave me a pair of shoes that were too big for her. Cool shoes. Danskos. Orange with little swirlies. Other professors were jealous (at least discursively), and not just of the shoes, but of having a friend who would share them so generously.
Ordinarily, I would never wear someone else's shoes, but for this friend I do, and wear them gratefully.
